Twisted50 Writers Share Their Thoughts On The Process

‘Did I enjoy Twisted50 and would I enter another? Fuck, Yes!’

I loved the experience and I think the whole concept is so uniquely brilliant and exceptionally executed, I wouldn’t hesitate to enter again. Even if it was to write 50 lines in a phone book, I’d be all in 🙂 Love’
Claire Rye // Writer

‘A huge thank you to you and your team for organising this competition. Whatever the outcome, it has given me an unexpected kick to start writing again after a long fallow period and I have thoroughly enjoyed the process and engaging with the other writers. It is a great initiative and I know you put a huge amount into making it work.’
David Fisher // Writer

‘The experience is unlike any I’ve had before, people are always kind and supportive, giving positive feedback and friendly suggestion. A pleasure to be part of.’
Lee Betteridge // Writer

‘Twisted 50 is always fun to enter, helps develop and start working relationships/networking and gives unknown writers a real chance.’
Philip Webb // Writer

‘I loved getting insightful feedback that made my story much stronger.’
Eileen Wilson // Writer

‘My favourite part of the process was engaging with the community who were both incredibly encouraging and spot on with critiques to improve my writing.’
Rebecca Golby // Writer

‘I enjoyed writing and sharing my story with a supportive writing community. Exchanging feedback with other participants is gratifying and contributes to the expansion of story-telling. Hats off to Chris Jones, fearless leader of the multi-faceted experience.’
Pamela PerryGoulardt // Writer

‘I’d given up writing fiction until I saw Twisted 50 was open for entries. It’s impossible to resist the temptation to sneak a peak at the competition, and the sense of a community of writers and readers growing around you.’
Christopher Stanley // Writer

‘I really enjoyed the Twisted50 journey. Having to craft a story, receiving feedback, and then improving my story is invaluable. I find the whole community feeling supportive and something all writers should do to gain constructive criticism.’
Gary S. Curtis // Writer

‘I’d never even contemplated writing horror. Then I discovered a dark side I never knew I had… and loved bringing it out, submitting three stories, trying something completely different in each. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely do again.’
Sam Dods // Writer

‘This was my first time with Twisted50 and it won’t be my last! I had so much fun being creative with the framework of the stories and deadlines to motivate me, as well as a wonderful feeling of passionate community through engaging with other people’s work and the feedback they kindly gave me for my own stories. This was a great event and I look forward to what comes next!’
Sasha Roberts // Writer

‘What I love most about the Create 50 projects, is the community it builds, the feedback we give and receive, helping each other create our best work, and building a community of writers and creatives. We create something extraordinary together.’
Dorothée Kuepers // Writer

‘Horror is not really my thing, but I loved taking part in the Twisted50 initiative. It forced me to stretch my writing muscles and challenge myself, which is always a good thing. I’m super proud of the two stories I came up with, which wouldn’t exist without the initiative. I’m definitely participating in more Create50 projects!’
JK Murphy // Writer

‘Writing can be an isolating activity, but the Create50 community has overturned that stereotype in a way that has been an eye-opener to me.’
Denise Gorden // Writer

‘I really like the peer-review element to these projects – almost always sensitive and constructive. I’ll certainly submit to future projects.’
Phil Town // Writer

‘Twisted50 is a great community and process to get involved in. It will make you a better writer by simply being a part of it, you don’t necessarily have to be a winner/finalist to progress as a writer and develop better skills. I’ll definitely partake in any future Create 50 projects.’
Gary S. Curtis // Writer

‘For any writer, Twisted 50 is a huge benefit. It is an inspiration to sit down and write, especially on a specific subject and to a deadline. Excellent discipline training. It is also educational to read the work of fellow writers and see how others approach the same subject as yourself. It’s a good way to learn how to do it and how not to do it. Then there are the invaluable peer reveiws. I have edited my stories for the better on the basis of reveiws that made small points that I hadn’t even thought about. Finally, we all know how difficult it is to get published. This is an opportunity to get into print. Even if it’s just one short story. Who knows where that ‘foot in the door’ could lead.’
John Read // Writer

‘Twisted50 has been one of the best experiences I’ve taken part in. I had a fear of writing my ideas down for so many years but the twisted series made me give it a go. I have loved the process and have found the feedback a great help in my writing and confidence. I honestly want to thank the team for giving my the writing bug. I absolutely love twisted50’

  1. I skipped the first 2 Twisteds for some reason. Silly me. This competition was invigorating, the imaginations across the board extraordinary and the feedback was incredibly constructive and useful.

  2. I eventually went for picture 4 – the girl with the headphones. For me it’s an evocative contrast of the modern girl with the ultra natural world of shadows that surround her. Although tuned in to the now it tells me the dangerous unseen realms are always with us.
