What do you think when you hear the word ‘Publisher’? For me, it’s less of a thought and more of a feeling. Fear. The slap of a teacher’s hand on your wrist. Strict. Unforgiving. Even Harry Potter was turned down by twelve publishers before it was finally accepted. Twelve! I bet they’re all shaking their heads now.

If you don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, I’m here to fill you in! NaNoWriMo stands for: National Novel Writing Month. In other words, within the month of November, you have one overarching goal: write 50,000 words. Break those numbers down and you have 1,667 words a day. Enough words to classify as a novel. Enough words to regret ever signing up for it. It’s perfect.
As I finish up the first half of Twisted 50 stories, organising the spreadhseet for the judges, and offering my thoughts, for what they are worth, I’ve started to pick up an some patterns and have some suggestions for your future writing self (and I will be using these insights too). All written with love in my heart and a wooden stake, just in case.
